Flat panel television receivers:PanelLink

PanelLink

This interface is similar to LVDS. The difference is in the number of data pairs; PanelLink has three data pairs, dedicated to red, green and blue respectively compared with the four pairs as is the case with LVDS. Capacity is retained by increasing the data bit per channel to 10 times pixel

clock instead of seven times in the case of LVDS. This is achieved using an encoding technique known as Silicon Image. The other essential difference is that PanelLink uses a fixed current instead of a fixed voltage transition. The advantage of this technique is unlike LVDS which is suitable only for short distances; PanelLink may be used for longer distances of up to few meters. The only disadvantage of a fixed current is that a return path has to be provided. The voltage swing for PanelLink is between 500 mV and 1.0 V.
