The Current Situation and Perspectives on the Use of Solar Energy for Electricity Generation:Slovakia

Slovakia

The solar power market in Slovakia experienced unexpected growth in 2010 that continued in 2011, with a market estimated at between 200 and 300 MW, accord- ing to the Global Market Outlook for PV until 2015 report. Recent changes in legislation, however, including a significant reduction in the FiT to €0.26 per kWh and the removal of support to systems above 100 kW from mid-2011, are likely to alter market growth from 2012 onward.

Solar Power Installed Capacity

In 2012, the total solar power capacity installed in the country reached 523 MW; this represents an increase of 13.2 % with respect to 2011 and 212 % with respect to 2010. According to the capacity installed, solar power represents 5.43 % of the total power capacity installed in the country in that year and 21.13 % of the total renewables capacity installed. The country occupies the place number 18 at world level (0.52 % of the world total) and the place number 11 at regional level (0.75 % of the regional total). During the past ten years, the country increased the solar power capacity in only three of them.

Electricity Generation Using Solar Energy

The evolution of the generation of electricity in Slovakia using solar energy during the period 2010–2012 is shown in Fig. 4.17.

According to Fig. 4.17, the generation of electricity in Slovakia using solar energy during the period 2010–2012 increased 29.4-fold. It is expected that this trend will continue during the coming years.
