Digital recording and camcorder:System parameters and DV tape and cassette.

System parameters

The specifications for DVC-SD format are set out in Table 22.1 for the elec- trical and coding sections and in Table 22.2 for the mechanical and tape- track characteristics.

DV tape and cassette

A new type of tape was developed for DV recording, having five layers as shown in Figure 22.5a. It is 6.35 mm wide and seven microns thick. The third layer is the magnetic one, having two high coercively evaporated

whose picture is just as good, but whose tracking tolerance is ‘tighter’, with a greater risk of data errors. The mini-DV cassette package measures 66 X 48 X 12.2 mm, and is illustrated in Figure 22.5b. ID terminals 1–4 may merely connect to internal resistors to indicate to the deck’s syscon details such as tape type, capacity and grade. Some MiniDV cassettes have a small memory chip known as memory in cassette (MIC). The chip is an I2C- controlled EEPROM that functions as serial data ports for read and write. The non-volatile memory chip typically 1, 8 or 16 kB capacity stores record dates and photo time/date (stills) along with DV format data like ID, mode, and size and tape type.
