POWER PLANT OUTAGES AND FAULTS
The following are the two types of outages that occur in power plants:
● Planned outage. These outages are planned regularly to perform maintenance on the units.
● Forced outage. These outages occur due to failure of equipment.
Sufficient redundancy is normally incorporated in the design of the power plant to mini- mize the frequency of forced outages. The power supplied to redundant equipment should originate from different sources to achieve the required level of reliability. The electrical supply routes to this equipment should also be separated or segregated.
